Sister Friend Thursdays - Sweet Treats
I was invited to 5 weddings this summer. WHHHHHHHAT you say??? It's true. Tis the season! I enjoy weddings, however I didn't enjoy the drain it had on my wallet this summer but hey - it's what you do for someone else's love because you love the couple or you're related to them so you don't have a choice.
I always get a little "verklempt'' when I see the bride walk down the isle looking so beautiful (but really, if I see someone else is crying or even just tearing up I'm done for. Hand over the kleenex!). Of course, everyone wants to be at the reception because it's a party (side note - I have been to wedding receptions which have been the opposite of a party, definitely NOT my favorite and when that happens I want to stab myself in the eye with a fork because that seems more fun).
What's my favorite part of the reception aside from the dancing, wine and laughter? Why the dessert of course! I have an insatiable sweet tooth and that does not bode well for the amateur baker in me. There are so many different options now instead of having only the traditional wedding cakes and the presentations are amazing! A lot of couples are opting for dessert tables that offer much more variety rather than just cake. Check these out...

Sister Friend Thursdays on a Friday
Big Sister is on the hunt for a dress. What bride isn't? I was actually lucky enough to tag along with Big Sister on one of her hunting expeditions a few weeks ago and had a lot of fun!
I wonder what she would think of this up and coming designer from Portland, Sarah Seven. I'm seeing this girl's bridal dresses everywhere! There are definitely a few cute little numbers in her regular spring 2010 collection I'd like to see hanging in my closet and her bridal collection is gorgeous. These custom made dresses can be made in a colour to your taste, and as she says on her website - just ask! She uses natural fabrics, silk, wool, linens, cotton voile as well as recycled vintage fabrics AND she gives 5% of all her sales to charity!
Check out a few of her bridal gowns - they are so lovely!

This girl is sick and pretty exhausted from a family DIY wedding over the weekend so no real post this week. But some advice to Big Sister as I know she wants to hold her wedding on her parents farm and the wedding I slaved away at attended this past weekend was on a farm - please supply REACTINE!!! Pretty please?! Oh and Kleenex....that would be good too.

Sister Friend Thursdays
Big Sister wants magic, make believe, and fairy's at her fairy tale wedding. I wonder what she might think about this fairy inspired wedding. The photos look like they're straight from an editorial shoot but it is indeed an honest to goodness, breathtakingly beautiful fairy wedding!

Disney Inspired - Ariel
It's now time for our favorite redheaded Disney character. The Little Mermaid turned princess (with legs) - Ariel!! I remember seeing this film in the theatre - I loved it. I loved it because Ariel was a redhead and she had cool what's it's and who's it's galore. (I happen to be a redhead as well, although I was a decidedly uncool, scrawny redhead - Ariel and Jessica Rabbit somehow made it a bit easier to be a redhead back then.) She was a dreamer and always wanted more and that's what she got. And how about that crazy Sea Witch character, good ol' Walt sure knows how to make his baddies bad! Is it weird that I had such a crush on Prince Eric? Yup - super weird. He was an animated character and I crushed on him like crazy. ANYHOOO.....
Here are the Disney, Ariel inspired wedding dresses. I really like the detailing on a couple of them.
Sea inspired colours for the bridesmaid dresses
And of course the mermaid style flower girl dress

I found this style board for a little inpsiration and click here for the details
You could go with a number of decor ideas for your reception. Blues, purples, greens - anything sea inspired - anything to make your guests feel like they are dining "Under da sea.."

Disney Inspired - Princess Jasmin
I loved Disney's Aladdin. It was more of a grown up kind of Disney movie - Robin Williams was brilliant as the voice of the Geenie - so funny. The baddie (Jaffar) was super bad, Aladdin got the girl and of course that girl is Princess Jasmin. I also believe (and I could be wrong here) that Princess Jasmin was the first ethnic Princess in any kind of Disney animated film.
So here's your Princess Jasmin Disney inspired wedding fun!

For reception ideas think intense jewel-tones, tents, rugs, lots of pillows...Happy planning!

Sister Friend Thursdays
I was doing a little research this weekend on different kinds of weddings and I came across this website called Offbeat Bride. Offbeat Bride is the brain child of a Seattle author of 'Offbeat Bride; Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides', Ariel Meadow Stallings.
The site provides information and different ideas for various showers, stagettes and parties as well as some cool do it yourself projects for centerpieces like these frosted glass pieces, creating your own reception back drop, making brooch bouquets - even making your own 'Hello Kitty' garters.
There are also loads of real wedding photos and articles you can browse through to get your own ideas. After going through some of the pictures, there are certainly some very creative people out there. Check out this rainbow dress.
I also found this other photo of another wedding and I thought it was SO cute!!
When I saw THIS picture, I immediately thought of Big Sister and Fiancé!
I'm thinking Big Sister could spend hours on the site and come away pretty inspired.
